A warm, practical space to feel understood and supported.

Carey brings experience across therapy, school, and family systems to her work with children, adolescents, adults, parents, and caregivers.

Carey Hitchcock, LCSW

Carey Hitchcock, LCSW, is a psychotherapist whose work is shaped by clinical experience, school-based insight, and a deep respect for each client's lived experience. She works with children, teens, and adults, while supporting parents and caregivers when that care helps create more understanding and connection around the client.

Carey earned her Master of Social Work with a concentration in clinical social work from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. Carey brings over 15 years of experience supporting children, teens, parents, and caregivers across school, community, and private practice settings, including work as an educator and in a school social work capacity. She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and CHADD, and serves on the Mental Health Committee of the Safe Community Coalition in McLean, Virginia.

In private practice, Carey has worked with clients from early childhood through later adulthood, as well as with parents and caregivers navigating complex emotional, developmental, relational, and family concerns. Across this work, Carey helps clients and caregivers build emotional awareness, develop coping strategies, understand protective patterns, and begin letting go of old thoughts, roles, and behaviors that no longer serve them.

She has facilitated numerous youth groups focused on emotional regulation, social skills, and anxiety management. Her background gives her a practical understanding of how emotional and behavioral challenges show up in classrooms, homes, peer relationships, and family routines.

Her background also includes extensive volunteer work with transitional housing programs for homeless youth and with individuals in alcohol and substance use recovery programs. This informs her nonjudgmental understanding of recovery, compulsive coping patterns, and the importance of dignity, connection, and community support.

Carey's clinical work is integrative, evidence-informed, and responsive to the needs of the person in front of her. She draws from a range of therapeutic tools while keeping the relationship, the client's lived experience, and practical daily life at the center of the work.

As both a clinician and the parent of three young adults, Carey brings practical, real-world understanding to her work. She believes therapy works best when it makes room for kindness, curiosity, honesty, and creativity.

Carey is committed to creating a therapy space where clients feel respected in the fullness of who they are, including their identities, culture, relationships, lived experiences, and ways of moving through the world.

A thoughtful, human approach.

Carey's work is professional, thoughtful, and evidence-informed, but it is also deeply human. She brings warmth, steadiness, humor, and real-life perspective into the therapy room, helping clients feel met as whole people rather than as a set of concerns to solve.

Outside of therapy, Carey is often happiest outdoors, reading, seeing live music or theater, and spending time with her husband, three young adult children, and her dogs. She values the small glimmers of beauty, humor, and connection that help ordinary life feel meaningful.
